Breed Introduction
Over 1000 years ago, some Turkish-speaking people settled in certain places in Asia, bringing with them the proud shepherd dog, the ancestor of the Anatolian Shepherd.
The ancient Turks used these dogs not to drive the sheep but to protect the flocks from predators like wolves and bears.
Due to the structured social organization of Anatolian Shepherds, they lack dependency and are not keen on obedience, thus making them unsuitable as family companion animals.
