Breed Introduction

Originating from Spain, like the Great Pyrenees, it is also a descendant brought to Spain by early Mediterranean sailors.

Initially used as a guard dog for sheep.

For centuries, every spring shepherds have used these dogs to drive sheep herds from the low plains of the Pyrenees to the high valleys, looking for grazing areas rich in forage.

This herding relies on constant migration, with 4-5 dogs driving thousands of sheep and needing to protect the flock.
