Breed Introduction

The American Staffordshire Terrier is a breed that results from the crossbreeding of bulldogs and terriers, originally known as bulldog-terrier crossbreed, and sometimes referred to as fighting dogs or bull terriers. Later, it was named Staffordshire Bull Terrier in England.

The weight range stipulated in the standard for the American Staffordshire Terrier is quite broad but should be proportionate to the body. This breed is known for its sturdy build, muscular body, strong head, and courageous demeanor.

The overall impression of the American Staffordshire Terrier is one of strength, compactness, muscularity, and a lively, enthusiastic attitude towards life. Its appearance is robust, but the legs should not be too long, which would create a disharmony with its shape.
